CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Lady Tigers couldn’t recover from an early 10 point deficit and a multitude of turnovers against Springdale, Ark., Har-Ber in their opening game of the 2021 Lady Tigers Varsity Invitational.

The Tigers managed to cut it to three points in the final quarter, but a 12 point effort from Har-Ber’s Caylan Koons in that final quarter proved to be the deciding factor. Koons was the only scorer in the fourth quarter for Har-Ber and was a perfect 6 for 6 from the free throw line in the final act. She finished with a game-high 30 points.

“Too many early turnovers put us in a hole to start, however, I’m proud the girls battled back and cut it down to 3 points midway through the fourth quarter,” said Head Coach Scott Moore.

Kianna Yates was the leading scorer for Carthage with 20 points – including two 3-pointers. Landry Cochran followed with 7 points, Sophie Shannon and Maggie Boyd added 4 points apiece. Lauren Choate finished with 3 points while Raven Probert and Presley Probert had 2 points each.

Moore acknowledged that experience is key as the season moves on and will help in conference matchups.

“We are gaining valuable experience with each game we play. Har-Ber is a tough team much like the teams we face in the COC. We will learn from tonight’s game and be better on Friday,” he added.
