CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Lady Tigers High School Basketball team bounced back in a big way Saturday after opening their home invitational 0-2 earlier in the week. The Tigers scored a tournament high 72 points, including 14 buckets from behind the arc, to knock off Waynesville in the fifth place matchup of the Lady Tiger Invitational.

Carthage Coach Scott Moore knew the girls had the ability to control games with their shooting outside the 3-point line.

“Coming into the season, we felt that 3-point shooting would be a strength for us. It was great to see us finally break out and hit a plethora of them today,” said Moore.

“The girls played with great energy in this game and that’s been a focus for us this week. We know that we can only get to be a great team by giving great energy for all 32 minutes,” Moore added.

Kianna Yates had a team high 24 points going 4-for-5 from the free-throw line and knocking down three 3’s. Presley Probert was second on the team in scoring with 12 points (two 3-pointers). Maggie Boyd added 11 points (three 3’s), Raven Probert hit three 3’s for 9 points, Lauren Choate added 6 points on two 3’s, Landry Cochran and Sophie Shannon each had 4 points, Lexa Youngblood chipped in with a 3-pointer and Trisha Kanas finished with 2 points to round out the scoring for the Tigers.

Moore believes the experience his girls gained as a group will give them something to build on this season.

“All 12 girls came in and contributed to this win. I’m proud of them all for their efforts today,” Moore said. There’s a lot we learned this week and we will get better because of the competition we faced in this tournament.”

The Tigers are now 2-3 for the season and have some time off before traveling to Springfield Dec. 13 for a Varsity/JV game against the Central Bulldogs. JV tips off at 6 p.m. with the Varsity game to follow.
