CWEP Celebrates Public Power Week 2023

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Carthage Water & Electric Plant (CWEP) is celebrating Public Power Week, Oct. 1st – 7th, along with more than 2,000 other community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 49 million Americans.

Public Power Week celebrates the reliable, affordable electricity CWEP provides to our community. Public power puts the people of Carthage first, and Public Power Week gives us the chance to emphasize the advantages of locally owned power to our families and friends.

CWEP invites the Carthage community members to participate in a variety of Public Power Week events. Activities include:

  • CWEP 125 Year Trivia – CWEP customers will have the opportunity to engage with us by answering daily CWEP historical trivia questions on our Facebook page (@cwep.carthagemo) starting Monday, Oct. 2nd , the first correct answer will win a prize from a local vendor.  (Must be a CWEP customer to win.)
  • CWEP Power Plant Tours – CWEP will be hosting tours of our historic power plant at 300 S. River St., Wednesday, (Oct.4th) from 10am and 6pm.  We hope you’ll join us to learn about how CWEP public power, powers our Carthage community! (Parking will be available in front of the Power Plant & a guide will meet you in front of the Receiving building to escort you back.)
  • Carthage R-9 Elementary Coloring Contest – CWEP is hosting a coloring contest with all Carthage R-9 elementary schools. Entries will be judged and presented a prize, announced and their artwork displayed all throughout Public Power Week in our CWEP lobby as well as on our website.
  • I Heart CWEP Drawing – Enter to WIN a Nest Thermostat! Customers can enter beginning Sept. 28 – Oct. 5th by taking a photo of a CWEP landmark (water tower, power/water plant, trucks, etc.) or even a employee serving their community! Post your photo on any of our social media channels (listed below) with the hashtag #iheartcwep We’ll draw a winner Friday, Oct. 6th at our Public Power Lunch. (Must be a CWEP customer to win.)
  • Public Power Lunch – Friday, Oct. 6th (11:30am – 2pm with a ribbon cutting at 11:30am) CWEP will be hosting a public power customer appreciation lunch on our East parking lot.  This event will feature a free lunch, bucket truck rides, “Pole top & bucket truck rescue” demonstrations by CWEP linemen, giveaways & much more.  We welcome the Carthage community to come out and help us celebrate!

Public Power Week is an annual national event coordinated by the American Public Power Association in Washington, D.C. The association represents not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities that power homes, businesses, and streets in nearly 2,000 towns and cities, serving 49 million Americans.
