Robert Eugene “Gene” Kinney, 90, Carthage, Missouri, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2024, at St. Luke’s Nursing Center, Carthage, Missouri. Gene was born on December 2, 1933, in Carthage, Missouri, the son of the late Wade Henry Kinney and Kathrine Ida (McDonald) Kinney. Gene’s life was a testament to the enduring bonds of family, the value of hard work, and the simple pleasures of life.

Gene was a proud graduate of Sarcoxie High School, class of 1951, where he laid the foundation for a life characterized by intelligence, friendliness, and an adventurous spirit. After graduation, Gene took to the roads as a self-employed over-the-road truck driver, a job that quenched his thirst for travel and adventure. His career path later led him to the Steadley Company in Carthage, where he dedicated 25 years of service. Gene also contributed to his community through his work with the Jasper County Special Road District. He married the love of his life, Linda Ralston, on May 27, 1976, in Grove, Oklahoma. They shared a life filled with love and wonderful memories.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Linda Kinney, who was his partner in all of life’s adventures; two daughters, Bernie Briggs and Leslie Quarton (Todd); three sons, Terry Kinney (Carolyn), Lance Ford (Teresa), and Lindell Ford; his brother, Richard Lee Kinney; several cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends. He was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Ford.

Yet, it was the time spent with his family that Gene treasured the most. Whether it was a family gathering, a quiet evening at home, or an impromptu road trip, Gene’s presence was a source of comfort and happiness to those around him.
