Tigers move to 6-2 with win over Central

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Carson Kinder (3-0, 0.00 ERA) was dominant on the hill, extending his scoreless streak to 16 innings while piling up 13 strikeouts in the 5-0 Tigers victory over Central on Tuesday. Kinder gave up two hits and zero runs over six and two-thirds innings while walking one.

“Carson was really good today,” Head Coach Kevin Burgi said when asked about Kinder’s performace. “I think this was probably the best we have seen him in a Tiger uniform. He threw his breaking ball for a strike and was getting ahead with all his pitches. He’s been tremendous this season.”

Carthage got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Blayne Lilienkamp singled to center field, scoring Landon West. A fielder’s choice ground out from Brady Carlton scored Lilienkamp later in the inning.

The Tigers added one run in the third on a Lilienkamp single to center field scoring Jordan Brunnert. Carthage scored again in the fourth inning on a sac fly from Brunnert and a single from Taylor Stevens-Diggs to make the score 5-0.

Lilienkamp fueled the middle of the lineup, leading Carthage with two RBIs on two hits.

In the field, Carthage had highlight catches from Brunnert in right field and Cooper Jackson at second base to back Kinder’s two-hit pitching performance.

“It was great to see a couple of nice plays on batted balls,” Burgi said. “Cooper Jackson and JB ran along ways to catch those fly balls and Brady made a nice play up the middle.”

Carthage (6-2) will travel to Glendale on Thursday.
