Michael Robert Phillips, 67, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. Mike was born on August 17, 1954 in Kansas City, Kansas to Robert Eugene Phillips and Barbara “Wegment” Phillips. Mike was a longtime resident of the Jasper County area. He graduated from Carthage High School, class of 1972 and then coached Girls Softball for several years. Mike was employed at Eagle Picher for 43 years as a lab testing manager. He served in the U. S. Air Force, was a former Grand Master for the Carterville Masons Lodge #401, and he was a scout master for several years for the Webb City Boy Scouts.
Mike was joined in marriage to Terri Phillips on July 8, 1978 in Carl Junction, Missouri; she preceded him in death on August 9, 2021.
He is survived by his two children Chad Phillips and Amber Phillips of Carl Junction, Missouri; one brother Mark Alan Phillips (Terri) of Springfield, Missouri; one sister in law Tammy Leivan; two nieces Talina Buker and Sadie Payne; and one nephew Erik Phillips.
He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Barbara Phillips and one sister Patricia Goldman.
Services for Mike have been scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, September 11, 2021 in the Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held the night before on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM in the Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Crocker Cemetery in Pittsburg, Kansas following the service.
