Maxine Burks, age 95, was called home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
Maxine was born on September 8, 1928, in Rocky Ford, Colorado to the late Larkin and Huldah Marshall. She lived most of her life in Carthage, Missouri until 2014 when she moved to Englewood, Florida to be closer to her daughter.
She married Jack Burks on July 15, 1948, in Carthage, Missouri where they shared nearly 50 wonderful years together before he preceded her in death on April 21, 1998. Her beloved sister and best friend, Myla McKinney also preceded her in death on March 23, 2015.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons Steve and Dan Burks; her daughter, Marsha Germeroth, and husband Richard; granddaughters Sammi Morehead and husband Cory, and Katie Burks; step-grandchildren Caleb Germeroth and wife Rachel, along with their children Elyse and Connor, and Caitlin Richardson and husband Michael, along with their children Kyler and Rylan.
Maxine was an avid member of First Christian Church in Carthage where she joyfully sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed sharing God’s love with others and was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
Professionally, Maxine excelled as the Payroll Supervisor and Accountant for Big Smith, Inc. in Carthage. Yet, her true passions lay in the moments spent with family, the camaraderie of her bridge club friends, and the annual summer adventures she shared with her granddaughters in Branson.
Visitation to celebrate Maxine’s life will be held at Ulmer Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 1:00 PM. Services will follow at 2:00 PM, with a private burial alongside her family at Fasken Cemetery in Carthage, Missouri.
