Lessie Marie Roberson Bennett was born January 25, 1931 in Ripley County, Missouri to Thomas “Ed” and Cordealia Roberson, the youngest of six. She was raised in Doniphan, Missouri where she met her husband Robert “Bob” Bennett. They married September 18 1952 and together raised three children; Van Wayne Bennett (Terri) of Carthage, Missouri, Joni Karol Zieger (Jim) of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Marcy Lynn Dollens-Rear (Tim) of Battlefield, Missouri. Bob and Lessie spent 43 wonderful years together; he preceded her in death in 1995.
Lessie worked as a beautician in the cafeteria at Columbian School for Carthage R-9 schools, and a homemaker who loved to cook, sew, and make quilts. She retired at 83 years old from St. Luke’s Nursing Home after 38 years as the staff beautician. She resided at St. Luke’s at the time of her death.
Lessie was blessed with eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and three more great-grandchildren due this year.
A funeral service is scheduled for Lessie at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 in the Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held before the service from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. Burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Carthage, Missouri.
