David Wesley Witt, 75, Carthage, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Missouri. He was born on September 17, 1948, in Carthage, Missouri, the son of Clarence Walter Witt, Jr. and Betty Lou (Mims) Witt. David’s warm heart and resilient spirit were a gift to all who knew him.

A proud 1966 graduate of Carthage High School, David spent much of his life in the town he loved. After high school, he dedicated himself to the craft of carpentry, contributing to the construction of many structures that stand as a testament to his skill and hard work. David’s hands were rarely still, as he was always involved in various projects and odd jobs that showcased his handy nature. David’s passion for sports was unparalleled. He was an avid supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals, his loyalty unwavering through every season. His presence at local Carthage Tiger football games was as dependable as the setting sun, where he would cheer on the team with vigor and enthusiasm. David’s life was a journey of dedication and love, filled with the joy of simple pleasures. He found happiness in the swing of a hammer, the thrill of a touchdown, the nostalgia of old western movies, and horses. He loved carrot cake with “lots” of shredded carrot in it, making the best chicken dumplings ever, spending time with his family and friends, and the laughter of those he held dear.

Survivors include a son, Ryan Witt (Brook); his grandchildren, Brandon Jones (Abbey), Koltin Greene, Kyle Greene, Grace Greene, Karsen Greene, Jackson Witt, Nikole Witt (Trevor), and Samantha Witt; his great-grandchildren, Baker Jones, Bennett Jones, Brayden Orton, Kali Kurzejeski, and Miles Kurzejeski; three brothers, Doug Witt (Debbie), Wayne Witt (Anna), and Richard Witt (Patty); two sisters, Edith Stratton (Richard), and Elizabeth Boswell; and many other extended family and friends.
