Axel Fredrick Hartman, 52, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, Missouri. Axel was born April 25, 1971, in Alamogordo, New Mexico, the son of Larry Hartman and Margaret (Olson) Hartman. He was a 1989 graduate of Carthage High School, and then received his bachelor’s degree in business from Missouri Southern State University. He spent some time abroad working bulb harvests in the Netherlands. Axel married Sheilah Stephens in July of 1999, and to this union, a daughter was born; they later divorced. He worked in sales for Fairview Greenhouse in Carthage for 20 years and then worked in dispatch for D&D Sexton in Carthage. He was a member of the Carthage Nazarene Church and the Kappa Alpha Fraternity at Missouri Southern. Axel enjoyed life, but most of all, loved his family.
Survivors include a daughter, Lilyana Hartman, Webb City, Missouri; his mother, Margaret Hartman, Carthage, Missouri; his father, Larry Hartman (Ruth), Carthage, Missouri; a sister, Elizabeth English, Carthage, Missouri; a brother, Eric Hartman (Beth Arthur), Carthage, Missouri; six nieces and nephews, Jakob English, Zakary English, Maggie English, Eliza Arthur, Eero Hartman, and Emberly Hartman; and many extended family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 10 am, Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Carthage Nazarene Church, Carthage, Missouri. The family requests in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his life can donate in his name to Celebrate Recovery in care of Knell Mortuary.
