The May 20th Show-Me-Select (SMS) Replacement Heifer Sale at Joplin Regional Stockyards had a good turnout and active bidding on most lots, according to University of Missouri Extension Livestock Field Specialist Patrick Davis.  Heifer demand was strong as shown by the 223 heifers selling for an average price of $1,913 per head.

“First-time consigners to the sale had a strong showing,” says Davis.  First-time consigner Fire Sweep Simmentals of Verona, Mo., sold the highest priced lot, which was two registered Simmental heifers that sold for $3,100 per head to Ronald Beltram of Maysville, Kentucky.  This consigner also had the highest sale average in which they sold 9 registered Simmental heifers for an average of $2,355.  Another first-time consigner, J and J Farms of Sarcoxie, Mo., sold one lot of 2 purebred Hereford heifers for $2,250 per head.  The final first-time consigner, David and Danise Cummings of Sarcoxie, Mo., sold 7 Angus/Sim-Angus cross heifers for an average price of $1,828.

“Long time and volume sale consigners also had a strong showing in the sale,” says Davis.  Aspen Ridge LLC, Carthage, Mo. participated in their 4th sale and had the 2nd highest average selling 23 head of red angus heifers that were mostly red with a few blacks for an average of $2,347. Nolan Kleiboeker Farms LLC of Wentworth, Mo., consigned 41 head of black baldy heifers which was the largest consignment and they sold for the 4th highest average of $2,156.

“Buyers preferred to pay more for red/red white face heifers compared to black/black white face heifers,” says Davis.  The average price of the 46 red/red white face heifers was $2,163 while the average price of the 177 black/ black white face heifers was $1,848.
