Carthage man arrested after pursuit, charged with kidnapping, assault, resisting arrest

CARTHAGE, Mo. — On Wednesday, Sept. 13, at approximately 1 p.m., Jasper County Sheriff Deputies were called to a past tense domestic assault that occurred in the area of County Road 105 and Fir Road in Carthage. During the initial investigation the victim said that she had been assaulted the morning of Sept. 12 and was held against her will overnight. When the suspect fell asleep, she was able to leave and call for help.

As the initial deputy approached the residence where the assault occurred, he saw the suspect leaving the residence and get into a vehicle, the deputy gave commands for the suspect to stop but the suspect put the vehicle in gear and fled the scene. The deputy began pursuing the suspect and after several miles, the suspect stopped his vehicle near Old 66 and Esterly Drive near Kellogg Lake in Carthage and gave up after being surrounded by Jasper County Deputies and Carthage Police Officers.

The suspect was identified as Joshua C. Buzzard, 23, of Carthage, Mo. Buzzard was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

Charges for Domestic Assault 2nd, Kidnapping and Resisting arrest have been sent to the Prosecutor’s Office for review. Buzzard also had three warrants for his arrest, one from Seneca Police Department for fail to appear, and two from Newton County for probation violations for possession of a controlled substance.
