Conservation Department Reminder: Fireworks not allowed on conservation areas

As we approach the Independence Day Holiday this July 4th, a quick reminder that fireworks are not allowed on any Department of Conservation Areas.  There are several reasons for this, the chief reason being the safety of all public users.

Although fireworks can be fun and exciting, they also possess an inherent danger if not used properly.  We value all our area users and want them to have a safe and fun outdoor experience while enjoying nature.  Another reason that fireworks are not allowed is due to the fire risk that they pose to the wild areas of Missouri.  With hot dry temperatures during the summer, stray fireworks can potentially create a wildfire that can destroy natural areas and valuable habitat for wildlife.  Lastly, the litter that is created by fireworks is unsightly and illegal if not picked up by the user.  For this reason, fireworks are not allowed on Conservation areas.

Please help to keep our wild areas clean and free of litter for the enjoyment of all.
