Even though it is closing its doors as part of the effort to fight the spread of Coronavirus, the Fair Acres Family Y is looking for ways to continue to serve the community in a time of crisis.

Jonathan Roberts, director of the Y, said he’s planning to offer free child care to some of the workers who are facing the virus most directly, emergency responders and medical workers.

The service will be offered at the Y’s new Youth Facility located near the Carthage Police Department.

“We’re only providing this service to our emergency personnel and medical workers,” Roberts said. “We’re not opening this up to the public. These are for the people that we need to have at work to fight this virus.”

Roberts said the daycare will follow a set of protocols to keep children healthy at the daycare, including checking the child’s temperature before they come into the facility, checking children for symptoms, and possibly even asking the parents to fill out a questionnaire asking about recent travel history or health symptoms.
