Freshman girls drop game to Skyline at Republic Basketball Tourney

The Carthage High School Freshman girls basketball team lost their matchup against Skyline Tuesday during the 2021 Republic Basketball Tournament.

Skyline was able to jump out early and pour on the pressure as the Tigers were outscored 3-18 in the first quarter. The final score was 25-48.

Jaidyn Brunnert led Carthage scoring with 7 points, including a 3-pointer. Zye Clark followed with 6 points, making two of four from the free-throw line. Lexa Youngblood chipped in with 5 points, Ashlyn Brust added 4 points and Jenna Calhoon added a 3-pointer to round out the scoring. As a team, the girls were 5-for-12 from the free-throw line.

Skyline’s Ashlyn Garrett had a game high 30 points and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.

The Tigers next play in the consolation game at 10:15 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 13.
