The First Maple Leaf Chicken Pageant, sponsored by Race Brothers Farm & Home and Moving Mountains, was held Sunday, Oct. 14.
Fifteen chickens and their handlers were on hand to compete in what promises to become an annual event. About 150 community members came out to support the chickens and their families.
Top prize went to Banny Chicken Little who traveled all the way from Poplar Bluff with his human Cacia Williams to participate. Chicken Little was dressed as a biker and hopes one day to crow like the big boys.
Second place was Fluff the Polish hen wearing a matching ballerina costume with her handler Ava Dunlap. Fluff likes to do the chicken dance, eat, and sleep.
Third prize went to Flannery Shelfer showing Tina the octopus chicken. Tina is a Lavender Orpington who loves to do the cha-cha slide and hopes to be one of the first hens to perform an opera.
