Congratulations to the 52nd Annual Maple Leaf winners

Friday evening, Oct. 19 The Fair Acres Family YMCA hosted the Maple Leaf 5K. Overall female winner was Marjorie Carter with a time of 22:02. Overall male winner was Seth Cannon with a time of 19:52.

Six floats took prizes at the Maple Leaf Parade. Leggett & Platt took the Sweepstakes Award which is granted to the “most outstanding” unit of the parade for portraying the theme, showing exceptional artistic value and overall outstanding workmanship and exceeding all other parade entries. 

This year, the award category once again included a $250 prize courtesy of the Maple Leaf Car Show. The Chamber’s Choice Award was given to Southwest Missouri Bank. This award is granted to a float that promotes the Carthage area and effectively portrays the image of the festival. Butterball won the Artistic Achievement Award for having a float that surpassed all others in artistic value and creativity, both in uniqueness of the idea and the materials used and for having outstanding workmanship.

The Community Image Awards are given to the best decorated units entered by non-profit organizations that promote goodwill and community pride. These floats are judged on theme, creativity, attractiveness and workmanship. This year’s adult award went to Arvest Bank. The youth award went to Carthage Church of Christ. 

New Day Dog Training took this year’s Special Recognition Award which goes to a unit the judges feel merits extra recognition. Maria’s took Saturday’s equine award for their parade entry.

Pierce City, Hartville, and Pleasant Hope High School bands took first, second, and third places in the parade band results. 

The band competition had four classes with Eldorado Springs taking first place in class A, Aurora in class B, Logan-Rogersville in Class C, and Lebanon in Class D. Lebanon also took Best Horn Line, Best Percussion, Best Auxiliary, and was the Sweepstakes Winner. Best Drum Major went to Aurora.

Sunday’s dog show Best in Show went to Toby, a mini Australian Shepherd who was dressed as a police officer. With 6 heats in the dachshund races, the competition was fierce. Mini Dappled Doxie Izzy walked away top winner.
