The Carthage Fire Department responded to a fire at the Days Inn Property on Central Ave. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2020.
The fire started in the laundry room and was quickly contained. It appeared to originate from a dryer and most of the damage was isolated. EMS was on site as a precaution, but no injuries or medical treatment was needed for guests, staff, or first responders.
“The fire doors closed so the smoke was contained pretty well,” Carthage Fire Chief Roger Williams said. “Fortunately, guest rooms didn’t appear affected too much. Evacuation of the facility went well and we had no one transported for medical issues that I am aware of.”
Dryer fires are common in home and business fires. Experts recommend regular cleaning of all lint filters and keep the area around the dryer free from debris.
