ANDERSON, Mo. — Senior Kianna Yates fueled the Carthage Lady Tigers to a 53-32 win over McDonald County Thursday, Jan. 6. Yates finished with a game-high 22 points, going five for seven from the free-throw line.

“We exploded out of the gates with a 12-0 run to start the game,” said Carthage Coach Scott Moore. “Then our shots quit falling for a few minutes and allowed them back into the game.

The Tiger defense stepped up on the second quarter, holding McDonald County to just two points which allowed the Tigers to hold a commanding lead at the halfway point 27-8.

“I’m immensely proud of our defense tonight, especially in the second quarter,” said Moore.

Freshman Lauren Choate added 14 points, with 12 of those points coming from the three-point line.

“Tonight, Choate found her groove and swished in four threes,” added Moore. “She has that sniper mentality and she will become an even bigger threat as she gains more varsity experience.”

Presley Probert had seven points for the Tigers, all of those coming in the fourth quarter. Maggie Boyd added four points and Sophie Shannon chipped in with three points. Landry Cochran had two points and Raven Probert finished with one point.

The Lady Tigers are back in action Tuesday, Jan. 11 when they host Carl Junction for their first COC matchup of the season.
