EMPORIA, Kan. — The Missouri Southern softball team fell to Emporia State in both games of a doubleheader by scores of 4-3 in game one and 6-0 in game two inside the Trusler Softball Complex Monday afternoon.
The Lions (12-17, 3-9 MIAA) tied the game up at 3-3 after Sidnie Hurst delivered a single up the middle to score two runs in the top of the fifth. Erika Lutgen knocked in the first run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth to cut the deficit to two.
ESU (12-17, 6-4 MIAA) held a 3-0 lead, scoring all its runs in the bottom of the second before the Lions battled back in the fifth.

Lexi Ferrari and Josie Tofpi each went 2-for-4 at the plate, including a triple and a run scored from Tofpi.
The Hornets jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning and then added one in the third and fourth for a 3-0 advantage entering the fifth. They then capped off their scoring with a three-run home run in the fifth toward a 6-0 win.
Mikaila Leonhart, Emily Harris, Ashley Cadarella, and Lutgen each provided a hit for the Lions in the loss.
