William Thomas McNew Jr. was born on December 29th, 1947 in Carthage, Missouri to Dr. William Thomas and Martha (Lott) McNew. He died peacefully at Sunrise of Chesterfield in Chesterfield, Missouri on September 6th, 2023.

Bill was a 1965 graduate of Carthage High School. He went on to earn an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Drury College in Springfield, Missouri before completing his MBA at University of Missouri, Trulaske College of Business, in Columbia, Missouri. Bill started his career in the banking world with Boatman’s National Bank in Columbia and later transferred to St. Louis with Boatman’s, which would become Bank of America. He retired as a senior credit specialist with Bank of America.

Aside from his work, Bill was an avid Mizzou Tigers football fan, holding season tickets for many years after leaving Columbia and faithfully returning every season to watch the games, attend tailgate parties, and catch up with old friends.

Bill was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, serving on the vestry, singing in the choir, and enjoying the men’s group gatherings. His church life began at Grace Episcopal Church in Carthage, Missouri and ended at The Church of St. Michael and St. George in Clayton, Missouri.

Wherever Bill went in life he had a following of people who knew and loved him. Born a person of small stature he was always a huge presence. His intellect, wit, and sense of humor were intoxicating. Every occasion with Bill was a special event for those blessed to experience it. Bill will be greatly missed, but his memory will continue on as a long as friends gather to share Bill stories.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Dr. William Thomas and Martha McNew, and his sister, Jane McNew Moran. He is survived by many cousins and by his brother-in-law, Joe Moran.

A memorial service will be held on October 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in Carthage, Missouri, followed by interment at Park Cemetery in Carthage.
