Velma Angeline Holz, 95, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away early Monday morning, April 17, 2023, at Vintage Park, Overland Park, Kansas. Velma was born April 10, 1928, in St. Michael, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Orville Harvey Timm and Vera Mae (Rice) Timm.

She was a 1946 graduate of Carthage High School, Carthage, Missouri. She then attended Bethany Nazarene College, Bethany, Oklahoma. Velma married Herman Holz on January 23, 1949, in Carthage, Missouri; he preceded her in death on March 8, 2020. After marriage, Velma worked for Leggett and Platt in Carthage. She then worked as secretary for Cordonier Gas Co., then for Ken Eliff and Maynard Durham. Velma was then accountant for Dale Rife before starting her own business, Holz Bookkeeping and Tax Services, where she was secretary, accountant and tax preparer for over 20 years.

She was a member of Gideons International and held office as auxiliary president, secretary, treasurer, and chaplain. Velma was also a member of the Carthage Nazarene Church where she worked with teens for 28 years, taught Sunday School for 60 years and bible study classes for 23 years and was Women’s Ministry director. Velma’s relationship with God was the most important one in her life, and from it, radiated His love to those around her, young and old. Velma and Herman went on many mission trips around the world and the U.S. to share Jesus with others. Her family was her life, second to Jesus.

Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Sue Holz Schmidt (Roger), Olathe, Kansas; her son, Steve Charles Holz, Edmond, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Kristen Rummerfield (Kenny), Brian Holz, Nathan Schmidt (Morgan), and Blake Holz (Clare); three great-grandsons, Maverick Schmidt, Krew Schmidt, and Hunter Schmidt; a sister, Elaine Baker, Carthage, Missouri; and many extended family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Knox.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Friday, April 28, 2023, at Carthage Nazarene Church, Carthage. The burial will follow in Park Cemetery, Carthage. The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm, Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Carthage Nazarene Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be donated to Gideon’s International in care of Knell Mortuary. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
