Ruth Virginia (Lyons) Carrell passed away peacefully and following her wishes on July 14, 2022.
Born to Charles and Clara (Swingle) Lyons of Carthage, Missouri, Ruth was born and raised in Carthage. She married Robert “Bob” Carrell on September 17, 1945.
Ruth became mother to Wendy Sue (Carrell) Carpenter and was delighted by the family Wendy created for her. Wendy, her husband Scott, their children Lindsay and Trevor and grandchildren Elle Carpenter Mason and Jay Mason were a source of love, pride and doting for Ruth throughout her life.
Ruth pursued her passion for the arts, studying oil and acrylic painting methods until the end of her life. She loved painting children’s portraits and shared many of her creations with people around the world. She was also talented in interior design and loved to decorate homes. She was a dutiful homemaker to her husband who preceded her in death. Ruth was a long-standing member of Carthage Nazarene where she led Sunday school and enjoyed studying and practicing her faith.
Ruth was the last surviving member of her large family of siblings and is survived and remembered by Wendy, Scott, Lindsay, Trevor, Elle, Jay, many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and family across the United States.
Respects can be paid at graveside services Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Park Cemetery in Carthage, Missouri at 2:00 p.m., where she will be laid to rest beside her husband Bob.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions in Ruth’s memory can be made to the youth program at Church of the Nazarene in Carthage, Missouri in care of Ulmer Funeral Home.
