Rose Marie Douglass

Rose Marie Douglass, 93, passed away on January 22, 2024, in Joplin, Missouri. She was born in Library, Pennsylvania, on April 29, 1930, the daughter of the late George Frye and Edna (Pearl) Frye. She held a special place in her heart for her family, which was reflected in her loving friendship with her sister, Dorothy. Rose’s life was a tapestry of dedication to her family, a pursuit of knowledge and a deep appreciation for a great book and the simple joys of life.

Rose was a 1948 graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School. She carried the torch of lifelong learning from her early days into her later years. Her academic journey continued at Penn State University, where she furthered her education and established the foundation for the wisdom she would share so generously with others, specifically her church and grandchildren.

Rose married her soulmate, Thomas J. Douglass, and together they built a life filled with love. The couple’s enduring partnership spanned an incredible 71 years of marriage. A love that lasts a lifetime.

Rose is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas J. Douglass; her sons, Robert Douglass and Eric Douglass; and her grandchildren, Amanda Wolz + Brady Wolz, Caitlin Berding, Jon Douglass + Melissa Douglass, Daniel Douglass, and Michael Douglass. Her legacy also lives on through her numerous great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her strong spirit. Rose’s passing is preceded by that of her son, Thomas Douglass, and her many brothers and sisters.

An avid reader, Rose found adventure within the pages of her many books. Her intellectual curiosity was matched only by her green thumb, as she lovingly tended to her vegetable garden, nurturing it to yield bountiful harvests season after season.
