Major Andrew Dee “Andy” Stutzman (Ret) U.S. Army, age 96, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Monday evening, September 2, 2019 at Mercy Hospital, Carthage, with family by his side.
Andy was born June 5, 1923 in Sarcoxie, Missouri to the late Fletcher Stutzman and Nora Belle (Cromer) Stutzman. He was a 1941 graduate of Carthage High School. Andy was a retired veteran, serving his country in the United States Army during WWII, where he was the recipient of a purple heart and a bronze star. While in the reserves, he worked as a switchman for AT&T phone company. Andy married Elberta Nunns; she preceded him in death. He then married Emma Jean Petersen; she also preceded him in death. Andy was a member of the Carthage VFW and the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Carthage. He loved playing golf and traveling in his RV around the United States, but most of all, loved his family.
Survivors include one son, Richard Stutzman (Betty), Carthage; one sister-in-law, Sandi Stutzman; nieces and nephews, Kenny Bowman (Jan), Hilarie Kennedy, Suzan Cordier, Tina Stutzman, Bruce Stutzman and Mark Stutzman; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Scott Stutzman; and one brother, Fletcher Stutzman, Jr.
Memorial services will be held 10 am, Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Carthage. Inurnment will follow the service at Fasken Cemetery, Carthage.
