Dorothy Marie (Boswell) Cowan, 99, of Carthage, Missouri, went to see her Lord and Savior at 5:07 p.m.  Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at home surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born July 31, 1925, in Wentworth, Missouri to William Burton Boswell and Nellie Helen McCullough. She lived in the Wentworth/Pierce City area until she turned 18 years old, then moved to Carthage. Dorothy worked at Big Smith, Leggett & Platt, and as a Real Estate Agent. She was a homemaker and mother, which was her greatest joy and favorite occupation, for 77 years. Dorothy was also a foster and surrogate Mom to many more children through the years. Her family came first, they meant the world to her. Dorothy enjoyed making ceramics, gardening and canning the fruits and vegetables that she grew in her garden as well.  Dorothy was a member of Grace Pointe Assembly of God Church and was a devoted member that loved her Lord with all her heart.

Dorothy was united in marriage August 18, 1944, to Lee Earl Cowan in Columbus, Kansas; he preceded Dorothy in death on February 21, 2010, in Joplin, Missouri.

Dorothy is survived by three sons, Bill Cowan of Joplin, Missouri, Robert Cowan (Lucia) of Carthage, and Dale Cowan of Chelsea, Oklahoma; two daughters, Gail Grigg of Carthage, and Debbie Ulmer (Mike) of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; ten grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lee Cowan; her parents William and Nellie Boswell; three brothers, Ralph, Jack, and Burt Boswell; three sisters, Ava Riddle, Iola Graves, and Nelda Boswell (infant); a granddaughter, Meghan “Maggie” Cowan; and two grand-dogs, Lucy and Tilly.

Services for Dorothy will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Grace Pointe Assembly of God Church, Carthage. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2025, at Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage. Burial will be at Van Buren Cemetery, at Unicorn Road and Elder Road, Wentworth, Missouri 64873.
