Two separate Jasper County incidents involve drugs, vehicle and foot pursuit

On March 17, 2023, at approximately 0439 hours, a Jasper County Deputy stopped a vehicle for driving at a high rate of speed on Interstate 44 in Jasper County.

During the traffic stop, Jeremy Whitcher, 41, of Springfield, Missouri, was arrested on active warrants. Incident to arrest, a vehicle search was done, and a clear plastic baggie containing approximately 117 grams of suspected methamphetamine was located underneath the driver’s seat.

Whitcher was transported to the Jasper County Detention Center, and charges were submitted for possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

On March 16, 2023, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office deputies, with the assistance of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, were involved in a vehicle pursuit that started near 26th Street and Prigmore Avenue, east of Joplin, Missouri and ended in Neosho.

Jacob Posey, 32, of Joplin, Missouri, was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit. Posey had several confirmed active warrants from Missouri and Oklahoma.

Posey was transported to the Jasper County Detention Center. Additional charges were submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office for resisting or interfering with an arrest, possessing a controlled substance, or a fugitive from justice, and other traffic violations 

Any charges against any of the subjects listed above are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
