On August 26, 2021, Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Civil War and Pine Road in rural Jasper County to investigate a reported suspicious vehicle in the area.

During the investigation, 41-year-old Billy E. Hankins from Sarcoxie was located walking out of a cornfield with his arm wrapped in a bloody shirt. Deputy Cady rendered medical aid by placing a tourniquet on Hankins arm to restrict the blood loss. EMS was contacted and transported Hankins to the hospital for further treatment.

During the investigation, Hankins admitted to using methamphetamines the night before and that he had been trespassing at a residence on Pine Road where he cut himself by falling through a window.
