An upcoming event is going to showcase local business, support a good cause and play host to a loving atmosphere with Gal-entine’s goodness.

The Galentine’s Sip-N-Shop event – from 5-8 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Historic Phelps House, 1146 Grand Ave. – will benefit the annual “Live Your Dream” scholarship from the Soroptimist International of Carthage. For $15 entry, visitors will receive a glass of Pennington Wine or Signature Galentine Cocktail from Roscoe’s Bar & Grill while shopping a variety of items from local vendors.

It’s a unique year for the scholarship as the recipient, Cheyenne Arnold, moved to Texas but will continue to feel the support from the Carthage organization. The scholarship – which celebrated its 50th anniversary at the international level last year – empowers women and their families through access of education, working hard to better their lives and striving for personal growth.

“We also walk alongside these women to encourage them and help them when we can,” said Soroptimist President Melinda Blosser. “We take turns mentoring these women, we send them cards, emails and encouraging texts. We also send them gift cards and some of the things we know they like … These [scholarship recipients] have overcome enormous obstacles. We believe this award – along with the schooling – helps change these women and their children’s quality of life while giving them confidence and self determination.”

The Galentine’s Sip-N-Shop event will have samples from Sweets by Sassy, and candy by Wellsprings Health & Home. The vendors planning to attend are: Sincerely Yours Boutique, Artists Loft 404, Chic Lifestyle Boutique, Spellbound Boutique, Revel Boutique, All Things Grand, the Pavillion-Sacry Medical Spa, LaLa Links – Permanent Jewelry, Oyster Shells by CAddington Vintage.

Tickets are available at the Carthage Chamber of Commerce.

Need More? There’s another Sip & Shop benefit at 4-8 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Ramsay Event Center in Joplin that will help the Freeman Helping Friends Mammogram Fund.

Mark Your Calendar: The annual Spuds ‘N’ More with the Soroptimist International of Carthage will be 11 a.m. March 7 at the Bridge (at First Christian Church). This highly anticipated event is a baked potato lunch and silent auction.
