Proposition 1 passed Tuesday with 71.26% of voters extending a quarter-cent sales tax first approved in 2016. The vote total was 4,469 yes to 1,802 no. The Jasper County voter turnout was 8.32%.
A new face will be added to the Carthage R-9 School board with Wayne Jones winning one of the two seats that were up for grabs. Incumbent Justin Baucom fell 66 votes short of Jones.

In the Carthage City Council 4th Ward race, incumbent Alan Snow defeated Dawn Denniston by 30 votes to retain his seat on the council. The Carthage City Council 5th Ward race was much closer with only four votes separating Ed Barlow over Brenna Barksdale.
Incumbent James Harrison of the 1st Ward and incumbents David Armstrong and Raymond West of 2nd Ward were both unopposed along with Ceri Otero of the 3rd Ward.
