Marissa Boyer and Shasta Moudy teamed up to prepare a website for National History Day. The girls are in the eighth grade at Carthage Junior High and decided to show the triumph and tragedy of “Olympic Defectors: Escaping to Liberty.”
The girls won first place in the Junior Division Group Website category at MSSU on March 8 and will travel to the University of Missouri to compete on April 27. Since both Marissa and Shasta are gymnasts, they easily decided that the topic of Olympic gymnasts such as Nadia Comaneci would be a great fit to the theme “Triumph and Tragedy in History.” Shown in their website is the tragedy of harsh treatment endured by the athletes in preparation for competition and the triumph of reaching Olympic medals.
Their website may be viewed at: 51874292.nhd.weebly.com and is currently being pre-judged by officials in the state.
