Carthage Community Foundation awards 16 grants to support community

During a luncheon presentation on Thursday, October 24, 2019 in the Carthage Water & Electric Community Room, the Board of Directors of Carthage Community Foundation presented $35,374 to 16 area organizations supporting the Carthage community and its citizens.

Health & Human Services Grants:

  • Children’s Haven of SWMO – Transportation for Carthage Children – $2,000
  • Community Clinic of SWMO – Prescription Drug Assistance for Carthage Residents – $2,500
  • Carthage Crisis Center – Laundry Upgrade & Laptop – $2,500
  • Horse of Hope – Therapeutic Equipment to Serve Carthage Riders – $500
  • Joplin Regional Medical School – Year 5 of 5-year Pledge – $5,000

Education & Youth Services Grants:

  • Carthage Tech Center/Career Readiness Center – ACT Work Keys Testing – $2,500
  • Carthage R-9 Language Programs – Biliteracy Education Materials – $1,800
  • Fair Acres Family YMCA – Safety Around Water Program – $2,500
  • American Legion – Boys State Sponsorship for Carthage Students – $800
  • Columbian Elementary – Outdoor Enhancements for Children – $1,250

Arts, Culture, History & Community Beautification Grants:

  • Vision Carthage – Carthage in Bloom Program – $2,500
  • Carthage Historic Preservation – Historic Flooring Restoration Workshops – $2,500
  • Art Feeds – Art Packs for Mark Twain Elementary – $2,500
  • Carthage Council on the Arts – Central Park Concerts – $2,500

Marsh Family Foundation Food & Nutrition Grants:

  • Feeding, Inc. – Food for Families – $2,012
  • Fairview Elementary – Growing Program – $2,012

Carthage Community Foundation works with individuals, families and organizations in the community to establish permanent endowments that enhance the quality of life for current and future generations by investing in the Carthage community. Grants above are made possible by generous individuals who left portions of their estates to Carthage for the betterment of the community for years to come. The following endowments at Carthage Community Foundation provided the grant funding for the awards:

  • The Hough Fund
  • Kenneth and Addean MacArthur Trust Fund
  • Marsh Family Foundation Fund
  • March Family Foundation Food & Nutrition Fund
  • The Carthage Fund

Since founding in 1999, Carthage Community Foundation has provided more than $7.1 million in grants and distributions back to the Carthage community.

Interviews and photos with grant recipients and CCF Board Members will be available following the event. The luncheon presentation begins at 12 pm and is expected to last 1 – 1 ½ hours. The Carthage Water & Electric Community Room is located at 627 W. Centennial Avenue, Carthage.
