Ready to Garden!!
Ozark Gateway Master Gardeners have been preparing to meet your gardening needs by growing vegetables, herbs and dividing perennials. They welcome you to attend their annual Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. The sale is located at the Joplin Crosslines, 320 S. School Avenue, Joplin.
Look for the big greenhouse at Crosslines. This is where these gardeners grow vegetables to share with the clients at Crosslines, just one of the many projects for these master gardeners. They also provide educational booths, such as at Empire Market and Shoal Creek. Look for them when attending events in the community.
Proceeds from the sale goes right back into Jasper County community projects. These range from beautification projects, educational booths and even scholarships to individuals who have a passion to learn through the MU Extension Master Gardener course, said April West, plant sale coordinator.
Look for a wide variety of tomato plants, including Amish Paste, Black Krim and Cherokee Purple. Of course, peppers in all their glory will fill whatever your needs are. All will be at very reasonable prices.
Think about herbs, such as thyme, lemon balm and oregano. Perennials may start with hostas, Solomon seal, iris, daylilies, phlox, sedum, columbine and even strawberries plants. Native plants have also been grown for the sale and a nice selection of houseplants. There are always surprises when the master gardeners gather. They love to share their favorite plants.
This is also a good time to ask your gardening questions. If the gardeners don’t know the answer, they will find it for you.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, May 4!!
