December 9, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free
The staff and volunteers of George Washington Carver National Monument invite you to Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 9th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. This annual event is free of charge and is a great opportunity to share some holiday cheer and greetings, and to meet the staff and volunteers. Create ornaments at make-and-take stations throughout the visitor center. Listen to local musicians, Robin’s Hood, as they entertain with their jazzy renditions of holiday favorites, plus some original compositions. Hot cocoa, apple cider, and cookies are available for everyone to enjoy!
George Washington Carver shared Christmas memories and greetings in some of his handmade greeting cards sent to friends. A reading of George Washington Carver’s Christmas cards will take place at 1:30 p.m. and some of his original cards will be on display. A special exhibit will feature selections from the Missouri Slave Narratives, a 1930s oral history collection, conducted by the Federal Writers’ Project of the WPA – Works Progress Administration. The exhibit provides a sober reminder about the experiences of enslaved individuals during the holiday season. Park rangers will be available to answer questions.
The 28-minute film, Struggle and Triumph – The Legacy of George Washington Carver, will be shown throughout the day and guided tours of the Carver Trail are offered at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Park hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Generous support for Holiday Open House provided by the Carver Birthplace Association, the park cooperating association.
Administered by the National Park Service, an agency of the Department of the Interior, George Washington Carver National Monument preserves the birthplace and childhood home of George Washington Carver ‐ scientist, educator, and humanitarian.
