No. 3 MSSU Women’s Track wins five events at Missouri S&T

ROLLA, Mo. — The third-ranked Missouri Southern Women’s track and field team picked up five event wins as the Lions competed in the 2019 Dewey Allgood Invitational hosted by Missouri S&T today.

Morgan Smith had three wins herself, winning the 200m, 400m and 100m hurdles. Smith broke her own 100m hurdles record today as she raced to an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark of 13.70, besting the mark of 13.76 she had in the 2017 MIAA Championships. Elizabeth Adeoye was second in the event, while Deiajuane Watts was fifth and Miracle Grant finished seventh.

Smith won the 400m dash in a time of 58.51, while Ashlynn Vanatter was fifth and Watts was sixth. Smith then turned in her third win of the meet with a first-place finish in the 200m, finishing in a time of 24.98. Ojurere Shonekan was third, while Kassidy Owens was seventh, Samantha Petry finished 20th, Jordan Banker was 22nd, Lauren Sutherland was 25th and Megan Tramel finished 29th.

Shonekan was second in the 100m, finishing in a time of 12.54, while Owens placed eighth. Sara Lin was eighth in the 800m, while Kelsey Evans was 10th. Alice Evans and Abbi Rogers placed third and fifth, respectively in the 5k, while Adeoye won the 400m hurdles in an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark of 1:01.21. Grant and Rachel Ray placed eighth and 10th in the event.

Janna Hautala, Danielle Prince and Mady Gepford placed fourth, fifth and sixth in the 3k steeplechase, while Wynter Nekola was seventh in the high jump. Emily Presley picked up a provisional height and a win in the pole vault, jumping to a height of 13-00.25, while Sutherland, Elena Bisotto and Banker placed fourth, fifth and sixth in the vault.

The Lions will be in action next Friday as Southern travels to Pittsburg State.
