Vanessa Jan Strickland, age 63, Carthage, Missouri, passed away, Tuesday July 6, 2021. She was born on May 4, 1958, in Carthage, the daughter of Tresa “Patty” Strickland. Vanessa was a member of the Carthage High School class of 1976. She worked for Dyno, Big Smith, and Independent Living as a caregiver. She attended Destiny Church in Joplin, Missouri. She loved spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include two sons, Dmitri Strickland, and Dorian Strickland, (Angelina) all of Carthage; a close friend, Michael Allen Sims, Carthage; granddaughters, Anisa Strickland, and Ashia Santillan; a sister, Tamara Davis, Carthage, a brother Jerome Strickland (Christina), Carthage; nieces and nephews, Derek, Tristen, Kesharra, Kegan, and Aaliyah, and Brittany Strickland-Beckner, and Sean Strickland who she helped raise; aunt Marilyn Vera, uncles Freddie Strickland, Brian Strickland, and Nathan Strickland, and a whole host of other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, and a close friend Scottie Dixon.
Per Vanessa’s wishes there was cremation and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
