EDMOND, Okla. — The Missouri Southern baseball team completed the series-sweep and Will Bausinger had his second-straight brilliant performance, as the Lions won 5-1 at Central Oklahoma today on Wendell Simmons Field.
Southern (10-3, 3-0 MIAA) has its second-straight MIAA series sweep dating back to last season when the Lions swept Fort Hays to end the regular season. It is also the first time since 2016 that Central Oklahoma (6-5, 0-3 MIAA) have been swept at home.
One week removed from a perfect game, Bausinger had another stellar outing as the junior went eight innings, striking out 11 and holding the Bronchos scoreless, while limiting UCO to just three hits. Bausinger moved his record to 3-1 on the season. Cam Bednar threw the ninth inning.
Dexter Swims and Alex Phillips went 2-for-4 with two RBIs each, while Phillips scored a run. Davin Gummere, Freddie Landers, Mike Million and Dan Lenz scored a run each, while Million had two hits and Gummere and Landers had a hit each.
The Lions started things off with four runs in the third as Phillips hit a ground rule double down the left field line to score Lenz and Million. Swims followed that up with a single up the middle scoring Gummere and Phillips.
Landers added a home run in the fifth to put the Lions up 5-0 and the Bronchos added a late run in the ninth.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend as Southern hosts Missouri Western on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
