Wilma Jean Sanders, 92, Miller, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, Missouri. She was born on November 26, 1932, in Bolivar, Missouri, the daughter of the late B. Brown and Amanda (Bridges) Brown. Wilma’s life was a testament to the enduring power of family, hard work, and the simple joys that make a life well-lived.
Wilma grew up in the heart of Missouri and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School, where she laid the foundations of a life characterized by dedication and a strong work ethic. She carried these virtues into her professional life, working diligently on the production line at Schreiber Foods in Carthage. Her commitment to her work was paralleled only by her commitment to her family and community. Wilma married the love of her life, Lloyd Lee Sanders, on December 20, 1950 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas; he preceded her in death on February 27, 2016.
Survivors include her children, Gary Sanders (Ruth), Sheila Dunham (Earl), Lisa Rose (Bill), and Shane Sanders (Tonya); eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many extended family and friends. She was also preceded in death by three brothers; and one sister.
Wilma’s family was the cornerstone of her life, and her happiest moments were spent surrounded by her loved ones at the family farm. It was here that she shared stories, laughter, and the wisdom of her years, creating memories that her family will cherish forever. Her love extended beyond her immediate family to include many extended family members and a host of friends, all of whom felt the warmth of her caring spirit. Beyond her family, Wilma had a passion for life’s simple pleasures. She found delight in attending auctions, where she reveled in the thrill of the hunt for hidden treasures. Her love for country music was well-known, and the melodies often served as a backdrop to many family gatherings. Yet, it was the time spent with family and friends, sharing stories and creating memories, that truly captured the essence of Wilma’s interests.
