John Allen Gremling, age 78, of Carthage, MO, and longtime educator passed away early Thursday morning, December 20, 2018 at his home. He was born to the late Frank S. Gremling and Wilma Snyder Gremling on June 18, 1940, in Verona, MO. After graduating from Verona High School, he received his bachelor’s degree in Education from Missouri State University and his master’s degree in Education from Drury University, Springfield, MO. He held lifetime certification in administration and guidance counseling.

He started his 38-year career in education at Mt. Vernon High School where he taught English and German and served as a high school guidance counselor followed by his tenure at the Carthage Junior High School where he also served as guidance counselor. He was sincerely dedicated to making each student feel accepted and achieve their personal best. If he could brighten the day for another, he felt the day was good. He was known for his good humor, encouraging and supportive character, and kindness shown to all.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Carthage, along with the Seekers Class, served as past elder, and helped with the Children’s Ministry.

He was a member of MSTA in which he served a term as president; served on the following advisory boards: Koinonia Campus Ministry at MSSU, Carthage Police Department Personnel Board, and Innovative Industries.

On February 8, 1969, he married Mary Ann Dyer. They had one son, Matthew Gremling of Republic, MO.

Preceding him in death are his parents and brother, Wilbur Gremling.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Gremling, and one son, Matthew (wife Kelli) Gremling, and granddaughter, Madisyn Gremling, Republic, MO.

Visitation will be held 6-7 pm, Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Funeral services will be held 11 am, Friday, December 28, 2018 at the First Christian Church, Carthage. Interment will follow at Fasken Cemetery, Carthage. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Christian Church (Development Projects or Benevolence Fund) in memory of John Gremling.
