JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Cody Smith, Chairman of the House Budget Committee, announced today his candidacy for State Treasurer. A conservative Republican, he is the first of his party to formally launch his campaign for the August 2024 election against Vivek Malek, who was appointed by Gov. Parson late last year.

“As a small business owner and realtor for over 15 years, I’ve seen firsthand the consequences of government red tape and crippling taxes,” stated Smith. “I ran for state representative to fight government overreach, and today I’m ready to take this fight statewide. As Treasurer, I will protect taxpayers from the woke liberals who want to bankrupt our businesses and families.”

Smith has served as the Missouri House Budget Chairman and focused his time in the state house on fiscal issues ranging from reducing taxes to fighting for school choice for Missouri students. As a candidate for Treasurer, returning tax dollars to hardworking Missourians will be the cornerstone of his campaign.

“I’m proud to have championed the largest income tax cut in Missouri history, as well as saved millions in taxpayer dollars by reducing our debt. In these times of turbulent inflation, we must be all the more vigilant about how we handle public funds.”

In addition to his strong economic record, Smith touts the necessary credentials needed for a statewide Republican primary. He helped get the most pro-life legislation in the nation across the finish line for Missouri. Likewise, he supported the Second Amendment Preservation Act (SAPA) to defend the constitutional right to bear arms. He has received the Award of Conservative Excellence from CPAC and boasts an “A” rating with the NRA, Center for Legislative Accountability, Americans for Prosperity, and the Club for Growth Foundation.

“I’m passionate about freedom: economic freedom, educational freedom, and ultimately, constitutional freedom. In the state house, I worked to uphold our God-given rights and put more money back in the pockets of hardworking taxpayers. As Treasurer, I’ll be able to continue those efforts on a statewide level.”

Cody Smith resides in Carthage with his wife, Jana, and their son, Charlie. He attended Carthage High School and studied business at Missouri Southern State University. He is a member of several organizations, such as the local chambers of commerce, the Rotary Club, the Lions Club, the NFIB, and the NRA. Both he and Jana share experience in the banking industry.

Cody Smith has retained Axiom Strategies to serve as consultants on his campaign. To learn more about Cody’s campaign, please visit codyformissouri.org.
