Sarcoxie man killed in crash near Avilla

A Sarcoxie man was killed in a one-vehicle accident 7:29 a.m. Friday on Liberty Road, four and a half miles northeast of Avilla.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Mike Wilkerson, 66, Sarcoxie, traveled partially off the right side of the roadway and struck a highway sign and a concrete culvert.

Jasper County Coroner Scott Keatts pronounced Wilkerson dead at the scene.

The fatality was the fourth this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.

Information on the name of the deceased was provided by the Jasper County Coroner’s office.
