CARTHAGE, Mo. — Schreiber Foods issued the following statement following the death of an employee, Jackie Parker, Neosho, in an accident Tuesday afternoon at the Carthage plant:
“We’re devastated by the loss of one of our dear friends and coworkers. Our thoughts and prayers go out to family and friends at this difficult time. We ask that you please respect their privacy during this emotional period.
“We’re working with authorities to investigate the incident. Grief counselors are onsite to help employees as they mourn the loss of this valued and long-term member of our company. We’ll continue to provide that counseling as long as needed. Additional counseling is available through our employee assistance program.”
The emergency call came in to 911 around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday with reports of a worker “entrapped in a machine, needing extrication” at 127 Claxton Ave, Carthage. Carthage Police, Carthage Fire and Mercy ambulance all responded to the call.
A malfunction in an auto pallet machine is believed to have led to Parker’s death.
OSHA will investigate the accident.
