Vision Carthage is thrilled to roll out a series of free community classes in coordination with the Restoration Carthage Program! This expansion in education is aimed at increasing the retention of improvements made to homes by empowering residents with the tools, resources, and knowledge required to make a real difference.
Restoration Carthage began in 2016. The program pairs eager volunteers with skilled laborers and materials to complete repairs on homes in need of TLC at no cost to the homeowner through partnerships with other nonprofits like Hearts and Hammers and Habitat for Humanity.
Previously, Vision Carthage would adopt an entire block of houses for repairs, completing over 50 homes to date. Now, Carthage residents are invited to nominate a neighbor or themselves through an application process which will help concentrate efforts towards individuals seeking assistance.
For those interested in being considered for this program, Vision Carthage will provide free instruction on a variety of subjects including gardening, home repairs, tips for working on older homes and more. While these classes are free and open to all Carthage residents, Restoration Carthage candidates will be required to take part in at least three of the educational offerings. Workshops will be offered monthly April through October leading up to the Restoration Work Day in the fall.
The first workshop being held will focus on budget-friendly spring cleaning tips and take place from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. April 15 at the Steadley Family Legacy Center at the Carthage Public Library. Anyone interested in attending this workshop or applying for the Restoration Carthage Program can sign up through the Vision Carthage website or reach out to the Vision Carthage office.
