Carthage Choirs compete in Mt. Vernon

MT. VERNON, Mo. — Carthage Show Choirs competed Friday, Jan. 20, and Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Mt. Vernon Mid-Winter Classic in Mt. Vernon, Mo.

The Junior High competition was held on Friday evening. The Carthage Jr. High show choir Sound Machine placed second in their division, and Miriam Duff was awarded Best Female Vocalist. Sound Machine is directed by Michelle Harris.

They will compete next at Joplin High School on Friday, Feb. 3.

Saturday morning the high school choirs took the stage to perform against some tough competition. The all-girls choir, Suite Sounds, finished second in their division and qualified for finals where they placed fifth runner up.

The mixed choir, Soundwave, finished second in their division and qualified for finals. Soundwave placed first runner up in the finals, and was awarded Best Choreography, Best Ballad and Best Vocals in the competition. The High School choirs are under the direction of Katie Crigger and Brian Hargrave.

Both High School Show Choirs will compete again on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Joplin High School.
