Carthage Junior High Teacher Named VFW Middle School Educator of the Year for Missouri

CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Carthage R-9 School District is proud to announce that Mrs. Emily Turley-Dorland, 7th grade educator at Carthage Junior High School, has been named the 2024 VFW Middle School Educator of the Year for the State of Missouri. 

Mrs. Turley-Dorland was nominated for this prestigious honor by Carthage VFW Post 2590, where she first earned first place at the post level. From there, she advanced to win at the District 7 level, and ultimately was selected as the top middle school educator in the state.

“Mrs. Turley-Dorland demonstrates a deep commitment to her students, consistently showing that she is genuinely invested in their growth and success, both in and beyond the classroom,” said Carthage Junior High Principal Dr. Brittany Bridges.

In addition to her classroom instruction, Mrs. Turley-Dorland dedicates her time as a tutor and mentor, consistently going above and beyond to support the success and well-being of every student she serves.

“We are thrilled to see Mrs. Turley-Dorland’s efforts recognized at the state level,” said Dr. Luke Boyer, Superintendent of Carthage Schools. “She embodies what makes our district special and shows how great teachers can truly impact students’ lives.”
