Medical call uncovers nearly 300 pounds of stolen telecommunication wire

JOPLIN, Mo. — On August 10th 2023, at approximately 7:00 a.m., Jasper County Deputies were dispatched to the area of Zora and State Hwy 249 for a possible medical call of a male unresponsive behind the wheel of an SUV. Deputies made contact with the driver and passenger who were asleep inside the vehicle.

During the investigation, approximately 300 pounds of telecommunication wire was observed in the back of the vehicle. Both males were interviewed and subsequently arrested. The driver was identified as Christopher J. Newberry, 35, of Joplin and passenger Hunter C. Green, 27, of Joplin were arrested and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

Charges have been sent to the Prosecutor’s Office on both Green and Newberry for felony stealing. Newberry was also cited for drug paraphernalia.

The charges for which the above were arrested are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
