Backyard Laying Hen Workshop May 10

May 10 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

Patrick Davis, MU Extension Livestock Field Specialist, states that backyard poultry production is increasingly being integrated into family lifestyles. This small-scale poultry production serves both as a food source for families and an income stream. Consequently, MU Extension, in collaboration with Lincoln University Cooperative Extension, aims to educate the public through the forthcoming “Backyard Laying Hen Workshop.” The workshop is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 10th, at Barton County MU Extension Center, located at 801 East 12th Street, Lamar, MO 64759, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“This workshop is designed for both experienced and novice small-scale poultry producers,” states Heather Conrow, MU Extension Livestock Field Specialist. Conrow will collaborate with Tatijana Fisher, Lincoln University State Extension Poultry Specialist, to provide education on basic management practices to maintain a healthy backyard flock. The workshop will also cover biosecurity, licensing and labeling requirements, processing, as well as washing and grading eggs. Participants will have hands-on opportunities to engage in equipment demonstrations, processing, candling, and grading of eggs.

The event is free of charge. To register for the workshop, please go to https://cvent.me/wq9Doo. Registration must be completed by May 8th. For further inquiries, please contact the Barton County MU Extension Center at (417) 682-3579 or reach Davis via email at davismp@missouri.edu.
