Eli Scott, an 8th grade student at Carthage Junior High will be competing in the state competition for National History Day on April 27 in Columbia at the University of Missouri.

The theme for this year’s competition is “Triumph and Tragedy in History.”  Eli chose to prepare a website on the cells of Henrietta Lacks which were taken without her knowledge and have been used and still are used in research today. Her family has successfully challenged the taking of cells without consent and new legal standards have been established since Henrietta’s death.

Eli’s website won first place in the regional competition and may be accessed at:  23535870.nhd.weebly.com for viewing.
