The Carthage Chamber of Commerce and Maple Leaf Committee are excited to announce the theme for the 53rd Annual Maple Leaf Festival will be “Legacy of Maple Leaf”. This year’s theme was submitted by Carthage High School student Spencer Lines. When asked what inspired him to submit the winning theme, Lines said, “Over the years, Maple Leaf has gotten bigger, and it has left itself a legacy. So, I decided that would be a good theme.”
A legacy is something handed down from a predecessor, a footprint left by a previous traveler, the heritage or gift given to the present by the past. Parade entries, art/craft vendors, event contestants, and other Maple Leaf Festival participants are encouraged to incorporate the theme into all parts of this year’s festivities.
Committee Co-Chair Alice Chorum said, “Carthage and the Maple Leaf Festival were set up for an amazing Today by the legacy of Yesterday. We hope the entire community joins us in celebrating the pioneers of Maple Leaf and the trailblazers of Carthage during this year’s festival.”
The deadline is quickly approaching for the Maple Leaf Artwork Contest. The selected art will be used in all official marketing, including the 2019 festival brochure, commemorative shirts, and web and print marketing, for the annual celebration set for October 2019 in Carthage.
