Brodie Cole (1-3, 7.00 ERA) started for Carthage and ran into trouble in the second inning. In the blink of an eye, aided by five walks and eight hits, Carthage found themselves trailing 13-0.

Seneca scored six runs on Cole with one out and Carthage Head Coach Kevin Burgi called on Carson Kinder to relieve Cole. Kinder induced a groundout to record the second out, but another six runs would score after that to force Burgi’s hand to go back to the bullpen and ask Ty Perry to finish the inning. Perry gave up an additional run, but was able to record the third out on a pop up to shortstop Brady Carlton.

In the third, Seneca tacked on an additional two runs to end the game on the run rule 15-0.

Blayne Lilienkamp was the only Tiger hitter to reach base. He recorded a single and a double.

“Tough game today,” Burgi said. “It was a game where nothing went right and a lot of stuff went wrong. I’m glad we get a chance to play tomorrow. Blayne did a great job at the plate.”

Carthage, 11, vs. Bolivar, 0

Wednesday, the Tigers traveled to Joplin to face Bolivar in a game that had been rescheduled and relocated from Monday due to severe storms.

Carthage found themselves on the opposite side of the previous day’s score.

The Tigers used a five-run second inning and six-run third inning to run rule Bolivar. As a team, Bolivar issued five walks and committed five errors to go along with seven hit by pitches.

Landon Bland (2-0, 1.11 ERA)  earned the win for the Tigers scattering two hits across four innings and striking out five. He sprinkled in four walks.

Ethan Stark, Bradyn Tate, Cooper Lilienkamp and Perry each recorded a hit for the Tigers. Zach Hoenshell and Tate led the team with two RBIs each.

The Tigers (8-5) travel to Willard Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
